I spent 26 years inside Deckel, Gildemeister and DMG MORI — including the years the three became one company. If you run a machine with any of those names on the casting, you don't have to explain its history to me.

What “DMG” actually means
Three letters, three companies, three German cities. Most owners of these machines have never been told the story — and it is exactly why a 1990s Deckel Maho and a current DMG MORI are closer relatives than the badges suggest.

How the three became one — and where I was standing
1985–1990
I am at Friedrich Deckel in Munich.
1990
I switch to Gildemeister. Later the office moves into the Deckel building in Munich and the two run as a joint Deckel-Gildemeister operation — before any takeover.
1993
Friedrich Deckel AG and Maho AG merge into Deckel Maho AG. About a year later, it goes bankrupt.
1994
Gildemeister acquires Deckel Maho. The company becomes Deckel Maho Gildemeister AG — “DMG”. I am on the Gildemeister side when Deckel Maho comes in: present for the creation of the name itself.
1998
I move to the USA with the company.
January 2001
I switch to DMG America.
March 2009
Gildemeister and Mori Seiki sign a cooperation agreement.
2010–2011
The US operations of DMG and Mori Seiki are combined.
2011
I leave DMG MORI as the US consolidation completes — 26 years inside Deckel, Gildemeister and DMG MORI. Independent ever since.
October 1, 2013
One brand: DMG MORI. Gildemeister AG becomes DMG Mori Seiki AG.
2015
DMG Mori Seiki Co. of Japan acquires a 52.54% controlling stake, and the names simplify to DMG MORI.
Why this matters for your machine
Deckel, Maho, Deckel Maho, Gildemeister, DMG and DMG MORI are not six unrelated builders. They are one European family, and the badge on your machine mostly tells you which year it left the factory — not who can work on it.
The nameplate changed. The engineering lineage did not.
A machine sold as Deckel Maho, as DMG, or as DMG MORI sits on the same European design lineage. That continuity is the reason a technician who learned these machines in Munich and Bielefeld is still the right technician for one built years later.
We service models the OEM has moved past.
A machine leaving the current catalogue does not mean it stops earning. When factory attention moves to the newest line, the older European-built machines are exactly the ones we keep running — through the original German OEM partner network, with genuine OEM parts.
Controls included, not just iron.
These machines run Siemens, Heidenhain and MillPlus controls, and a machine is only as available as its control. We troubleshoot all three on-site, and failed Heidenhain and Siemens control and feedback components — drives, control modules, operator panels, Heidenhain linear scales, spindle encoders — are repaired where viable or exchanged for genuine parts.
Machines and families we service
Our machine service is exclusively for European-built DMG MORI machines — the Deckel, Maho, Gildemeister and DMG lineage described above. Not Japanese- or US-built machines, and not other brands.
Deckel Maho DMU series
Universal milling machines from the DMU line, which traces back to Deckel Maho. The DMU 50 is developed and produced at Deckel Maho Seebach — DMG MORI's most successful 5-axis machine — and older units typically carry Heidenhain controls.
GMX series
Including a complete GMX 250 Linear Y/X axis, milling spindle and B-axis tower exchange — OEM-supplied, installed and laser-verified on the customer's machine.
Spindles
OEM spindle service routed through the original German partners. KESSLER and DMG spindle standard repairs can often be completed in about one week plus shipping.
Milling heads
OEM milling-head overhaul, rebuilt to factory specification with original spare parts.
Sauter turrets
Sauter turret repair and genuine Sauter parts.
Siemens, Heidenhain & MillPlus controls
On-site troubleshooting, plus repair or exchange of control and feedback components including Heidenhain linear scales and spindle encoders. MillPlus expertise in particular has become genuinely rare — fewer and fewer technicians anywhere still work on these controls. We do.

Who services old Gildemeister machines?
We do. Gildemeister machines are part of the same European lineage that became DMG and then DMG MORI, and age is not a disqualifier — an older European-built machine is exactly the kind we keep running. Work routes through the original German OEM partner network with genuine OEM parts, and our founder, Steffen Wilhelm, was inside Gildemeister from 1990 onward. Send the model and serial and we'll confirm the machine is in scope within one business day.
Is Deckel Maho the same as DMG MORI?
Same company, different eras of its name. Friedrich Deckel AG and Maho AG merged into Deckel Maho AG in 1993. Gildemeister acquired Deckel Maho in 1994 and the group became Deckel Maho Gildemeister AG — “DMG”. Gildemeister and Mori Seiki signed a cooperation agreement in March 2009, the US operations were combined in 2010–2011, and on October 1, 2013 the group moved to a single brand: DMG MORI. So a Deckel Maho machine is an ancestor of today's DMG MORI, not a separate make.
Do you service machines DMG MORI no longer supports?
Yes — that is a large part of what we do. When factory attention moves to the current catalogue, the European-built machines it moved past still have years of production left in them. We service those through the same original German OEM partner network, to factory specifications and with genuine OEM parts. The limit is build origin, not model year: European-built DMG MORI machines, including the Deckel, Maho, Deckel Maho and Gildemeister generations.
